  4. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips and coconut oil in 15-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  5. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the energy balls.

Storage

Store in an airtight container:

  • Refrigerator: Up to 1 week
  • Freezer: Up to 3 months

Recipe Tips

  • Use a natural, runny almond butter for the best texture.
  • If your dough feels crumbly at first, don't add extra liquid right away. Let it rest for 10 minutes before deciding if it needs any adjustments.
  • For the richest chocolate flavour, use a good-quality cocoa powder.
  • These are delicious with either a dark or semi-sweet chocolate drizzle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use peanut butter instead?

Yes! Peanut butter works well and gives these a classic chocolate-peanut butter flavour.

Can I make these without protein powder?

Not as written. The protein powder isn't just there for protein—it also helps absorb moisture and gives these protein balls their soft, brownie batter texture. Leaving it out will change the consistency significantly.

If you're looking for a snack without protein powder, check out our Double Chocolate Fudgy Energy Bites, which were developed specifically without it.

Can I skip the chocolate drizzle?

Absolutely. The energy balls are delicious on their own, but the drizzle adds a little extra chocolate flavour and makes them look bakery-worthy.

Can I freeze them?

Yes. Freeze in a sealed container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator or enjoy straight from the freezer.

What makes Bloom Boost different from adding flax or chia alone?

Bloom Boost contains a blend of fibre-rich ingredients, including psyllium, chia, flax, oat bran, hemp hearts, and pumpkin seed protein, making it an easy way to boost both fibre and nutrition in recipes like these.

Why almond flour?

Almond flour gives these protein balls a soft, brownie-like texture without needing oats or dates. It also adds healthy fats that help make them more satisfying and pairs well with the rich chocolate flavour.

These Brownie Batter Protein Energy Balls are proof that nutritious snacks don't have to taste like "healthy food." They're rich, chocolatey, satisfying, and easy enough to make any day of the week. Enjoy!
