Here’s what you’ll need to make this moist and chocolatey banana bread:
Double Chocolate Banana Bread
Ingredients
- 4 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups)
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup honey or maple syrup
- ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
- ¼ cup sour cream (can also use greek yogurt)
- ¼ cup oil (like avocado or olive oil)
- 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour (or all purpose flour)
- ¼ cup Bloom Boost (for added fiber + nutrition)
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- Optional: 1/2 cup - 1 cup chocolate chips, shredded coconut, or dried fruit
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, Bloom Boost, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mash the bananas. Stir in the eggs, vanilla, honey or maple syrup, applesauce, sour cream, and oil until smooth.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet and stir just until combined — a few small lumps are okay to avoid overmixing.
- Fold in any mix-ins like chocolate chips or coconut, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Smooth the top. Can lightly press extra chocolate chips into the batter on top for an extra touch!
- Bake on the lower oven rack for 50–60 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan for 30 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips for Success
- Ripe bananas are key! The more brown spots, the better the sweetness and flavor.
- Don’t overmix — this keeps the loaf soft and tender.
- Add a sprinkle of chocolate chips on top before baking for a bakery-style look!
